Admissions

Nursery

Admissions to our Nursery class are organised at school.
We register children from the age of 2 years.
Children may be admitted after their 3rd Birthday, according to the availability of spaces. Spaces are allocated with consideration to a child’s age and the distance between home and school.
Attendance at our Nursery is no guarantee of a school place.

Reception Classes

Admissions to Reception classes are managed by LB Newham. Admissions are based on distance between home and school and whether brothers or sisters attend Woodgrange or Godwin Junior School.

We would welcome you applying for a place at our school.  To do this you must follow the correct process for your child’s age as detailed below.

Normal Admissions

If your child was born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017, you will need to apply for a reception class place in an infant or primary school for September 2021.

If your child lives in Newham you will need to apply via London Borough of Newham. But if your child lives outside Newham, but you want him or her to go to school in Newham, you will need to apply through the local authority in the borough you live in.

Remember, you must always apply for a place, even if your child:

  • Already attends the nursery of your preferred school   OR
  • They have a brother or sister who attends the schools

Infant to junior school transition

If your child was born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 and attends an infant school, you will need to apply for a year 3 junior place in a junior or primary school for September 2020.  If they attend a primary school NOT an infant school you have the choice of your child staying at their primary school or applying to change to another school.  If they are happy in their primary school you do not need to take any action.

If your child lives in Newham you will need to apply via London Borough of Newham. But if your child lives outside Newham, but you want him or her to go to school in Newham, you will need to apply through the local authority in the borough you live in.

Remember, if your child attends an infant school you must apply for a place, even if your child:

  • Already attends the infant school linked to your preferred junior school OR
  • They have a brother or sister who attends the junior school

In Year admissions into primary school (aka mid term and mid phase)

If your family arrives in Newham during the school year and your child needs a school place in the borough you must complete an In Year form and you are usually given a place within 10 days.

The place offered may not be at the school you prefer as that school may not have a suitable place available.

Free school meals

All primary aged pupils receive free school meals in Newham schools. There is an online registration process via the Newham website. It is very important to complete this registration as it can affect school funds.

Fair Access

The law requires that each local authority must have a Fair Access Protocol (FAP), agreed with the majority of schools in its area to ensure that for In Year admissions unplaced children, especially the most vulnerable, are offered a place at a suitable school as quickly as possible.  In agreeing a protocol, the local authority must ensure that no school – including those with available places – is asked to take a disproportionate number of children who have been excluded from other schools, or who have challenging behaviour.  ADD SCHOOL NAME has signed up to the LB Newham’s Fair Access Protocol.
